Quick question: my dermatologist  just prescribed me propecia......will this really grow my hair back?  I tried Rogaine and all  it did was give me a headache and dandruff.

Propecia is excellent for helping improve your hair primarily in the crown (back) area of your scalp.  It also can help the mid-scalp area on top of your head. Propecia makes no claim on frontal area of the scalp.  The strategy Dr. Bolton employs for his patients is to at least transplant the frontal area where the medicine isn't effective and utilize the medicine for the crown where it works best.  If a patient has enough donor to go from the front to crown he will do really well.  He will get guaranteed new hair from the transplant and a likely improvement to the existing thinning hair from the Propecia.  When the transplant and the medicine work together the results can be extraordinary.
Propecia is 90% effective.  5% get great improvement, 30% get slight improvement, 30% got moderate improvement, 25% stabilize and 10% continue to lose their hair.  This study was for the crown area only.

Propecia can grow hair but it will not take someone who is already bald and give them a significant result.  Hair transplants are the only thing that can do that.
